Contractor Classification Assessment

What is the Classification Assessment process?

The Classification Assessment is part of the compliance workflow within the YunoJuno Freelance Management System (FMS). It is used to determine the appropriate engagement status for contractors across different organisations and jurisdictions.

There are two parts to the process:

  • A client questionnaire, completed by the hiring organisation

  • A contractor questionnaire, completed by you

Both questionnaires are initiated at the same time. Once completed, the engagement is reviewed and assigned a classification typically within 24 hours.

If additional information is required, the YunoJuno compliance team will contact you directly.

Why do I need to complete a Classification Assessment?

The Classification Assessment ensures that your engagement is structured in line with applicable labour laws and regulations in the relevant jurisdiction.

This helps to:

  • Ensure you are engaged compliantly, wherever you are working

  • Reduce the risk of misclassification

  • Protect you from potential legal or financial implications

  • Support consistent and fair engagement practices across organisations

Because classification requirements vary by country or region, each engagement is assessed individually.

What does the Classification Assessment involve?

The contractor Classification Assessment consists of 4 sections:

Past engagement

This section covers any previous or existing employment or work relationships. For example, whether you are currently working for the client as an employee or Independent Contractor.

Business operations

This section covers details on your level of business investment. For example, whether you have your own office facilities or website and how you advertise your services.

Personal services

This section covers details on how you offer your services, for example, how many clients you have and what percentage of your annual earnings will be provided by the booking.

Your business risks

The section covers your level of risk in relation to payments, the services delivered, and liability. For example, whether you run an entrepreneurial risk if you do not deliver the services.

How long does the Classification Assessment take to complete?

The assessment consists of 11 questions and typically takes around 5 minutes to complete.

What happens when I have completed the Classification Assessment?

Once both questionnaires have been submitted, the engagement is reviewed and assigned a classification usually within 24 hours.

If further information is needed, the YunoJuno compliance team will follow up with you by email.

What are the possible outcomes?

  1. Independent Contractor classification
The engagement can proceed, and you can accept the booking through the platform as usual.

  2. Non–Independent Contractor classification
If the booking does not receive an Independent Contractor classification, then the hirer may not be able to proceed with the booking, or they may be able to engage with you as an employee through our Employer of Record (EOR) service.
