What is the Classification Assessment process?

There are two parts to the process:

  1. A client questionnaire which is completed by the hirer

  2. A freelancer questionnaire which is completed by the freelancer

The client and freelancer questionnaires start at the same time. Once both questionnaires have been completed the booking will be reviewed and assigned a classification (typically within 24 hours of receiving both the hirer and freelancer questionnaires).

If more information is required to make an assessment then the YunoJuno compliance team will contact you by email.

Why do I need to complete a Classification Assessment?

The Classification Assessment determines the appropriate classification status for a booking through YunoJuno, ensuring compliance with local labour laws and regulations and mitigating the risk of misclassification and potential legal consequences and fines. Misclassification of Independent Contractors can have significant legal, financial, and operational implications.

What does the Classification Assessment involve?

The freelancer Classification Assessment consists of 5 sections:

Past engagement

This section covers any previous or existing employment or work relationships. For example, whether the freelancer is currently or has been previously engaged.

Contract

This section covers details about the booking such as the booking duration and where the freelancer will provide their services.

Deliverables

The section covers details such as the freelancer's accountability for any deliverables and the specific skills or expertise required by the freelancer.

Control

This section covers details about the level of control that will be exerted over the freelancer. For example, working hours, supervision, and working arrangements.

Freelancer Integration

This section covers how the freelancer will be integrated into your organisation. For example, how the freelancer will be presented to customers and whether they will be provided services considered integral to your business.

How long does the Classification Assessment take to complete?

The assessment consists of twenty-two questions and typically takes around 5 minutes to complete.

What happens when I have completed the Classification Assessment?

Once both questionnaires have been completed the booking will be reviewed and assigned a classification (typically within 24 hours of receiving both the hirer and freelancer questionnaires).

If more information is required to make an assessment then the YunoJuno compliance team will contact you by email.

What are the possible outcomes?

If the booking receives an Independent Contractor classification then you can immediately offer the booking to the freelancer. If you have previously made a booking through YunoJuno then there is no change to the typical process.

If the booking does not receive an Independent Contractor classification, then you may not be able to proceed with the booking, or you may be able to engage with the freelancer through our Employer of Record (EOR) service.
