Client Classification Assessment

What is the Classification Assessment process?

The Classification Assessment is part of the compliance workflow within the YunoJuno Freelance Management System (FMS), designed to determine the appropriate engagement status for contractors across your organisation.

There are two parts to the process:

  • A hirer questionnaire, completed by the hiring organisation

  • A contractor questionnaire, completed by the contractor

Both questionnaires are initiated at the same time. Once completed, the engagement is reviewed and assigned a classification typically within 24 hours.

If additional information is required, the YunoJuno compliance team will contact you.

Why do I need to complete a Classification Assessment?

The Classification Assessment ensures that each contractor engagement is evaluated in line with applicable labour laws and regulations in the relevant jurisdiction(s).

This helps organisations:

  • Maintain compliance across multiple regions

  • Reduce the risk of contractor misclassification

  • Avoid potential legal, financial, and operational consequences

  • Apply consistent governance across their contingent workforce

Classification requirements can vary by country or region, so it is important that each engagement is assessed individually.

What does the Classification Assessment involve?

The contractor Classification Assessment consists of five sections, designed to apply across all industries, roles, and types of contractor engagements:

Past engagement

This section covers any previous or existing employment or work relationships. For example, whether the contractor is currently or has been previously engaged.

Contract

This section covers details about the booking such as the booking duration and where the contractor will provide their services.

Deliverables

The section covers details such as the contractor's accountability for any deliverables and the specific skills or expertise required by the contractor.

Control

This section covers details about the level of control that will be exerted over the contractor. For example, working hours, supervision, and working arrangements.

Contractor Integration

This section covers how the contractor will be integrated into your organisation. For example, how the contractor will be presented to customers and whether they will be provided services considered integral to your business.

How long does the Classification Assessment take to complete?

The assessment consists of 22 questions and typically takes around 5 minutes to complete.

What happens when I have completed the Classification Assessment?

Once both questionnaires are submitted, the engagement is reviewed and assigned a classification usually within 24 hours.

This standardised process supports consistent, auditable classification decisions across your organisation’s contractor workforce.

If further clarification is needed, the YunoJuno compliance team will follow up directly.

What are the possible outcomes?

  1. Independent Contractor classification
The engagement can proceed, and the contractor can be onboarded through the platform as planned.

  2. Non–Independent Contractor classification
If the booking does not receive an Independent Contractor classification, then you may not be able to proceed with the booking, or you may be able to engage with the contractor through our Employer of Record (EOR) service.
